From Chairman’s Desk
Any educational institution is evaluated ultimately on the yardstick of academic credentials. On this count it is remarkable that all the 16 colleges and ASIA and JG International Schools have achieved commendable results. Details are given elsewhere in the magazine.
It is really a matter of pride that we have emerged as one of the top educational institutions in the country. We offer education from kindergarten to Post Graduate level at our enormous campuses, ASIA, on Drive-in – Road and JG campus of Excellence on Sola Road, Ahmedabad. Courses offered at college level vary from Commerce, to Computer Applications to Business Administration to Teacher training, both B.Ed and M.Ed.
Our foray into professional education began with Nursing College four years ago. We have since commenced our Physiotherapy College and opened an OPD centre for Physiotherapy at our own premises, near Sola Bridge, SG Road, Ahmedabad. Treatment at the Centre is extended to ASIA members at a concessional rate.
In our pursuit for offering, socially relevant and career-oriented education, we have been making all out efforts to get permission to start a MBA college. I do hope that final approval from AICTE, Delhi, comes through so that we can start the course this year itself.
As a part of our commitment to promote Arts and Music, we have been offering a Bachelor's Degree Course in performing Arts , a first in Gujarat University. I am glad that the University has approved our proposal to start a Master's Degree course in Performing Arts this year.
We have today institutions that provide education to over 8000 students and employment to about 500 highly qualified and experienced staff.
I have always received unstinted support and co-operation from my colleague trustees, managing committee members of Ahmedabad South Indian Association, Government of Gujarat, Gujarat University, SNDT University, Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards, Indian Council of Secondary Education, Cambridge University, National Council for Teacher Education, Nursing Council of India and Indian Association of Physiotherapists.
I have greatest regards and gratitude for all those who have made their contribution directly or indirectly to make ASIA what it is today. Let us continue to work together to take ASIA into an organization of national and international repute.

ASIA English School was bustling with activities throughout the academic year 2008-2009. Our prime objective has always been to maintain and improve the quality of education in school. Therefore, a few staff members were deputed to attend different workshops conducted by Ahmedabad Management Association.
Our students took competitive exams such as ASSET, MacMillan, Cyber Olympiad, Science Olympiad and Math Olympiad. Some students were also sent to JG International School for 'The Inter-school Elocution Competition' as well as to Sree Narayanaguru Vidhyalaya for an Essay-writing Competition. Two students won cash prizes and certificates for the top two positions.
We, at ASIA, believe in the holistic development of students. To inculcate self-discipline, unity and co-operation in them, a two-day leadership camp was conducted, which proved beneficial to the forty students who participated in it. More than 200 students participated in a workshop on 'Disaster Management' conducted by 'Anti-fire and Disaster Response Force', Ahmedabad city.
Moreover, students enthusiastically participated in the celebration of festivals like Janmashtami, Navratri, Christmas, Independence day, Republic day etc. Martyr's day with the 'All faith prayer' was also observed. On the Labour day we emphasized on the importance of dignity of labour. The Onam celebration with colourful flower rangoli was enjoyed by one and all. On Teachers' Day, the young students took on the roles as teachers and the best among them were awarded with certificates.
The artistic aptitude of the students was also brought out when they were prepared for Elementary and Inter-mediate level drawing examination. The 'Navneet' and 'Camel' drawing and colouring competitions had a wide participation and students came out with flying colours, literally and figuratively speaking. Moreover, 'Max New York' conducted a 'Card Making Competition' for all the students on the occasion of Diwali. The students were kept busy through-out the year through Inter-house competitions like recitation, elocution, story-telling, story-writing, singing, face-painting etc. The students of primary section bagged the first prize in Carol singing competition which was conducted by the YMCA.
Physical exercises and related activities go on at par with other curricular activities. An exciting 'Cock fight' was conducted at school in which students participated enthusiastically. The Scouts and Guides participated in an adventurous three day trekking camp to Mt. Abu. Some of our high spirited students also enjoyed Para-sailing conducted by Kaushik Aero Sports.
Recreational activities like picnics to nearby places were also organized to relieve the students and staff from the burden of routine work. A puppet show and a horse ride were also arranged at the school premises.
Our Annual Day Celebration was the highlight of this year. 1200 students put up a magnificent show, enthralling the audience with a series of dance dramas, narrations amidst apt back grounds.
We have started an Eco-club with the objective of spreading environment conservation awareness, by making students conscious of minimizing the use of papers, conserving electricity and water. Our students participated actively and even demonstrated how waste paper can be recycled and used for making beautiful articles.
Last but not the least, we had arranged regular parent-teacher meetings as these interactions contributes to an atmosphere conducive to the welfare of our students.
